Sadat Hasan Manto is the name of literature which is considered to be the author of the time. In that period, he presented the sensitive issues of society in his storieswhich people won’t talk openly on such topics. Manto is popular worldwide. He was born on 11th May, 1912 in Samrala (30km away from Ludhiana) in Punjab.
To keep Manto’s work alive, film have been making on his noval and stories from time to time. Nandita Das, who is now famous for acting and directing different types of films, has made the film with the title ‘Manto’ on the life of Manto. In this, Nawazuddin Siddiqui played Manto. The movie trailer came in 2017. This film is ready to release.
Prior to its release in India, it will be shown on May 13 at the Cannes Film Festival.
Manto saw the society in a different way
‘Manto’ has been selected for the competition category of Uncertain Regards session of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. During this time the film will be screened. Nandita had said last year about the release of the film in India – it will be released in mid-2018. Although this film will be released in India this year, its official announcement has not been made.
Apart from Nawaz, Rasika Duggal, Rishi Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar, Ranvir Shorey and Tahir Bashin have also worked in the film. The music of the film is given by Zakir Hussain. The film is jointly produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, Filmstock and HP Studios.
Nawaz’s ‘Manto’ reached the Cannes Film Festival, when will it be released in India?
Even before Nandita, there has been a movie based on the life of Manto in 2015 in Pakistani cinema. This Urdu film was directed by Sarmad. Sarmad himself played the main character of Manto.
There are many films on the novels and stories of Sadat Hassan Manto in Bollywood too. In the year 1946, there was a movie based on the story of Manto, named ‘shikari’. Ashok Kumar played the role of lead actor in the film. Apart from this, the story of Manto was also on Kali Salwar but in the year 2002 a movie came in the same name. It was directed by Farida Mehta.
